Under 6 (U6)
MSC U6 Program Description
Our U6 program continues the technical phase of learning. Our focus is primarily on ball familiarity, individual skills and concepts, and overall speed, balance, and agility exercises. It is also the phase in which we continue to explore pressure and opposition. Players are placed onto teams with Parent-Volunteer Head Coaches. Coaches are supported by professional coaching staff from 24-7 UK Soccer Academy to ensure every player and coach has a great experience and leaves feeling more comfortable, more confident, and more excited to come back. Sessions are 1 hour and are broken down into three main phases. Phase one focuses on players as individuals. Players should have a ball each and should spend lots of time engaged and moving around touching a ball. Phase two focuses on speed, balance, and agility; allowing players to continue to develop as athletes, and build confidence in their overall abilities. Phase three focuses on introducing and exposing players to the game; this could be any number of small sided game situations and scrimmages that allow players to deal with opposition. While we want players to develop a love for the sport and competing, we recognize that the most passionate, well rounded players develop a love for the ball first. We want kids to leave feeling more comfortable, more confident, and overall more excited players.
***Sessions take place on Sunday afternoons***

Uniforms and Equipment
The playing field is roughly 20 yds x 25 yds. Soccer balls and nets are provided by the Club. All players must wear shin guards and soccer cleats (no baseball cleats allowed) to all games and practices. Families will need to purchase a uniform kit before the start of the season. Home team will wear red and away team wears a “colored bib or penny provided by the club.” Please navigate to the Uniforms page under the Recreational tab for additional information.
I am a parent. Are there any meetings I need to attend?
Yes. Prior to the start of the season MSC hosts a New Parents Night for U5, U6 and U8 parents. At this orientation parents will have an opportunity to meet other parents, learn about the upcoming season and Montclair Soccer.
What color do we wear?
In Under 5 soccer, we play all games within Montclair Soccer. Therefore, we have adopted the following jersey protocol: HOME team wears RED, AWAY team wears “colored bib or penny provided by the club.”
