Under 10 – Under 19 (U10-U19)

The Montclair Soccer Club U10-U19 Recreational program is designed for players age 9 to 18 who want to play soccer for FUN and with a lower level of commitment and travel than competitive programs.  MSC’s recreational teams play in the Jack London Youth Sports Soccer League (JLYSSL) or the Cal North – Cal Soccer League (CCSL).  No tryouts are required to play on a recreational team.  A typical U10 team has 10-14 players on their roster while older teams will have a roster of 14-16 players.

The primary season is in the Fall starting just after Labor Day and ending in mid-November.  Many JLYSL teams also participate in the Jack London Referee Appreciation Tournament held immediately following the fall season.

The U10-U19  teams predominantly play in the Jack London Youth Soccer Sports League (JLYSSL).  JLYSSL is comprised of six East Bay soccer clubs including Alameda Soccer Club, East Bay United, Grass Valley Soccer Club, Oakland Soccer Club, Piedmont Soccer Club and MSC.  Games are played between teams from each of the six clubs.  Information about JLYSSL can be found at www.JLYSL.org.  Some older MSC teams play in the Cal North – Cal Soccer League (CCSL).  Information about CCSL can be found at www.calnorth.org/ccsl/ccsl/.

The program is run primarily by volunteer parent coaches. Teams have the opportunity to schedule training sessiosn with one our professional soccer coaches. The 24/7 Soccer Academy trainers help promote and maintain a high standard of coaching that MSC strives to achieve.

Game format and rules are determined by the league.  More information can be found at the league websites:  www.JLYSL.org and www.calnorth.org/ccsl/ccsl/.

Team Formation

Girls and Boys teams are formed in August from the pool of players who registered in the previous April-May registration period.  Generally teams are formed in two-year age groupings, i.e., U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 by a Volunteer Age Group Coordinator.  The Age Group Coordinator assigns players to teams based on information provided at registration, i.e., previous team affiliation, gender, family requests for friends, coaches, and by school.

Teams consist of 10 to 16 players! Teams are flighted based on age and skill level. The League publishes the schedules of the games.

Use the Cal North Age Matrix at http://www.calnorth.org/programs/registration/age_matrix/ to determine the age group for your player.

Practice Schedules

Fall practices start the last week of August.  Each team practices once per week for approximately 1-1/2 hours.

Children must be registered and on a team roster in order to practice and/or play.
